Vegetation Recovery Patterns in Burned Areas Assessed with Landsat 8 OLI Imagery and Environmental Biophysical Data

چکیده

Vegetation recovery after the large wildfires that occurred in central Portugal 2017 is assessed present study. These had catastrophic consequences, among which were human losses and a vast extent of forest devastation. Landsat 8 OLI images used to obtain land use cover (LUC) classification determine Normalized Burned Ratio index (NBR) for different times. NBR results difference between (dNBR) before fire (pre-fire) (post-fire), obtained cross-checked with LUC. The dNBR cross-referenced biophysical data identify characteristics most important burned areas need vegetative recovery. showed spatial differentiation vegetation recovery, highlighting factors this process, particular type (the predominant species bank seeds available), (for example, soil areas), continentality gradient, climate conditions. was differentiated by time according pre-fire. In general, shrubland faster than tree species, more marked regenerated rhizomes fire. process also influenced season study area. It efficient spring at beginning summer, importance optimal conditions needed regeneration, such as temperature precipitation (soil humidity water availability growing plants). research are planning: definition strategies ecosystems’ adoption preventive measures avoid occurrence wildfires, modification anthropogenic practices, etc.

Drought Effects on Vegetation Changes in Kashkan Basin of Lorestan Using ETM + and OLI Landsat Data

Background and objectives: Vegetation is one of the most important elements of an ecosystem, which is directly related to the moisture conditions of the land. Estimation of plant drought indices such as VCI, TCI, VHI is an effective tool to assess the effects of drought by calculating NDVI. In this regard, several studies have been conducted that explain how to calculate and use these indicator...

Comparison of the Continuity of Vegetation Indices Derived from Landsat 8 OLI and Landsat 7 ETM+ Data among Different Vegetation Types

Landsat 8, the most recently launched satellite of the series, promises to maintain the continuity of Landsat 7. However, in addition to subtle differences in sensor characteristics and vegetation index (VI) generation algorithms, VIs respond differently to the seasonality of the various types of vegetation cover. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the effects of these variations on VIs...

Burned area mapping in Africa with SPOT-VEGETATION imagery: Accuracy assessment with Landsat ETM+ data, influence of spatial pattern and vegetation type

An algorithm for burned area mapping in Africa based on classification trees was developed using SPOT-VEGETATION imagery. The derived 1 km spatial resolution maps were compared with 30 m resolution maps obtained with 13 Landsat scenes, through linear regression analysis. The procedure quantifies the bias in burned area estimation present in the low resolution burned area maps. Good corresponden...

Monitoring Plastic-Mulched Farmland by Landsat-8 OLI Imagery Using Spectral and Textural Features

In recent decades, plastic-mulched farmland has expanded rapidly in China as well as in the rest of the world because it results in marked increases of crop production. However, plastic-mulched farmland significantly influences the environment and has so far been inadequately investigated. Accurately monitoring and mapping plastic-mulched farmland is crucial for agricultural production, environ...

Radiometric Non-Uniformity Characterization and Correction of Landsat 8 OLI Using Earth Imagery-Based Techniques

Landsat 8 is the first satellite in the Landsat mission to acquire spectral imagery of the Earth using pushbroom sensor instruments. As a result, there are almost 70,000 unique detectors on the Operational Land Imager (OLI) alone to monitor. Due to minute variations in manufacturing and temporal degradation, every detector will exhibit a different behavior when exposed to uniform radiance, caus...
